Gnu Writer Speaks: Research Fun

Although naval history grabbed me in college and was a blessed relief from all the impenetrable engineering tomes of my first college career, it did not become a personal fascination until I took an afternoon seminar on the peculiarities of my home town, Cincinnati. At the end of the afternoon, I said, ‘Man, I don’t know squat about my own ‘hood,’ and made myself a bit of a Cincinnati docent thereafter by picking up random snippets of oddities and niceties. It was fun and enriching and I became a good tour guide.

One of the intentional features of my little novellas is the insertion of historical perspectives and events. In the process, I learned more about Maine, Dearborn, Eastern Kentucky, Alameda and other locales. Presently, I have a problem. In working on a Josh & Dana adventure in Cincinnati and my problem was not to know enough, it’s that I knew too much. I didn’t know what to leave out! Anyhow, it’s done and available under the name ‘Over the Rhine’ referring to an actual historic neighborhood in Cincinnati.
